All Aboard the Tenebrous Counter-Revolution

“When in doubt, I melt a face,” says Max, whose comics work—while dream-like—is nothing like his actual dreams. “For one, most of my dreaming life tends to be a mash-up of the electronic media that I consume, interspersed with some wandering in overgrown bookstores. This project, on the other hand, is more concerned with the intersection between the chaos of the mark and the order of the pattern; between the fraught nature of cyborg selfhood and the absolute stillness of a reflection within a reflection… you know?” When asked to elaborate, Max emphatically repeated, “melting faces” — as though that phrase, in itself, comprised his entire creative world.
